Staying Safe: During Extreme Heat

• Avoid the sun – stay indoors from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. when the burning rays are strongest.
• Drink plenty of fluids – drink 2 to 4 glasses of water every hour during times of extreme heat.
• Replace salt and minerals – sweating removes salt and minerals from your body, so replenish these nutrients with low sugar fruit juices or sports drinks during exercise or when working outside.
• Pace yourself – reduce physical activity and avoid exercising outdoors during peak heat hours.
• Wear appropriate clothing – wear a wide-brimmed hat and light-colored lightweight, loose-fitting clothes when you are outdoors.
• Stay cool indoors – set your air conditioner between 75° to 80°. If you don’t have air conditioning, take a cool shower twice a day and visit a public air conditioned facility.
• Keep pets safe – heat also affects your pets, keep them indoors or if they will be outside, make sure they have plenty of water and a shaded area to help them keep cool. Never leave your pet alone in a vehicle, even if the window is cracked or open.

Join us for BBQ and family fun at our BSAP Family Reunion! Fellowship with the Mann UCLA BSAP team and learn about resources available to our Black students through BSAP. In addition to a BBQ dinner, there will be a raffle, music, school supply giveaway and more!

We are excited to announce that we will continue to offer sports this year! You, your family, and your student-athlete are cordially invited to Athletics Night on Friday, September 16, 2022 from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM. Tacos and light refreshments will be served. As their support system, you have a right to know what you are signing up for when your student-athlete decides to participate in sports. The student-athlete has the right to know what is going to be expected of him/her by the coach, school, league, and teachers/staff. This school year I would like to continue to have a partnership and communication with the parent/guardian/family, coach, and student-athlete.
