– Reread “$211 Billion and so much to buy” and answer the questions: 1. What evidence is given about the purchasing power of youth today?

2. How do today’s youth use their influence to add to their purchasing power?

3. How does the chart help support the main idea and key details in the article?

4. What is the relationship between youth’s access to media and advertisers?

5. Informational texts often include numbers and statistics as a way to give evidence. Reread teh sentences with facts and statistics. Think about any additional questions you have, and discuss them with a partner or guardian. Then write one question to share with the class.

Week 11

Ms. Young: Identifying Sentence Types

For homework this week you will complete these practice sheets that focus on identifying sentence types. In class we have covered compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences, and now you will practice identifying the parts of the sentence and even writing your own examples. This packet is due on Monday, March 25, 2019.

Be responsible, complete your homework, and submit it when it is due. If you need help, then please ask an adult that is near you and come to tutoring on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

Week 12

Ms. Young:

Take the 7th grade English Parent Survey home and get it signed by a parent. The survey will be distributed on Wednesday, March 27, 2019.

Please bring your survey back to Ms. Young by Wednesday, April 3, 2019.

Week 13

Ms. Young:

Students are working on an informational speech in class. For homework students need to continue writing, revising, and editing their speech. Parents, please go over the speech with your student and make sure that it has a clear beginning, middle, and ending. Final speeches are due on Monday, April 8, 2019.

Week 14

Ms. Young:

Complete final draft of speech, create visual aid for presentation, and write speech on flash cards. Students will be presenting April 22, April 23, and April 24.

Week 19

Ms. Young:

In preparation for SBAC testing, students are writing an argumentative essay in class this week. At home they should be completing missing assignments and practicing writing claims at home. Each student should bring 10 claims to class on Monday, May 13.

Ms. Young: “Grandma”

Read the essay “Grandma” by Erma Bombeck, answer questions 1,2,5, and 9.

After you have read the essay, write a three paragraph speech that defines ONE word. Use the text “Grandma” as an example.  Your question responses and speech are both due on Monday, March 25, 2019.

Week 12

Ms. Young:

If you have not already, please complete your Definition Speech. For those of you who have completed it, you will be receiving feedback from your teacher, and this week you’ll need to revise it and resubmit it after you have completed your revision and editing.

Week 13

Ms. Young:

Students are writing, revising, and editing an informational speech. They should be now working on their final draft of the speech. It is due on Monday, April 8, 2019. Students will be presenting their speeches in class from April 9-April 12.

Week 14

Ms. Young:

Submit final drafts of speech and write out main points on flash cards. Practice presentation in preparation for presentations after spring break. Presentations will occur April 23, April 24, April 25 and April 26.

Week 19
